How do you prevent your cats from ending up in shelters?

We screen our families with adoption application to try and get to know families. We want to make sure our kitten is going to its forever home. Many breeders do not screen families and give cats to who every bring money. Our cats are our babies, and we want to find their perfect home and we turn away adopter that are not able to provide one.

We NEVER upsale a kitten or cat. Doing so can foist a kitten on a family that is not a good fit and is bad for everyone; the kitten, the family, and the breeder. If you are hesitant about a match, we would rather you wait for one that melts your heart and you guys click. Making a bad match is just a recipe for disaster and can encourage kittens and cats to be abandoned at shelters. And we are more than happy to refer you to another reputable breeder of folds or other breeds or just notify you of future litters.

We microchip our kittens and pre register us as the breeder. Our contact information will always be on the microchip so if a cat ever shows up at a shelter and the owner info is not current we are a secondary contact. Don’t worry, you’ll still be the main contact and owner and the shelter will not release the cat to the original breeder until the owner is given 14 days to show up. Please register yourself as the owner. Even pre-registering, we still get people who don’t register themselves.

We will take any cat back on a surrender basis. If we are able to rehome it we may share the rehoming fee (with medical documentation only, otherwise it is a pure surrender) based on how long it takes, but it is not guaranteed and we do reserve a portion of the rehoming fee for us for the time we spend caring for the cat and screening families. We will help you rehome it yourself by listing it on our website and blog. And remember, people are often unwilling to pay as much for an older kitten or cat as younger cute kitten.
